Government efforts to revitalize the traditional market in Indonesia will remove the impression that had been inherent in the community that the traditional market filthy,dirty, and far from comfortable. The central government through the Ministry of Commerce has poured funds of Rp 300 billion for the program.
In the year 2011, the government also has a pilot program that has a concept of market-friendly, clean and fresh. At this early stage there are 10 traditional markets in some parts of Indonesia will be the pilot markets, including Central Java, East Java, Sumatra,and Bali.
"We want to develop the concept of market-friendly, clean and fresh. In terms ofplanning, zoning, and comfort when we are shopping in that market," said Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said during a visit to one pilot market in Pasar Agung,Penatih, Denpasar, Bali Friday (3/12/2010).
"So not only management, but also an important physical," he added.
So far the government has no one right model to revitalize the traditional marketsbecause each region has a distinct character to each other. "The reality in a few yearsto revitalize the market there is no one model is appropriate because the area has its own characteristics. As in Bali, in every market there are always people who manage the temple and his own," said Mari.
Pilot market is expected to set an example for local governments, public or private that will develop the traditional markets.
